kman got a reaction from Cebi in Lirus ban appeal discussion
This thing about luring people to other communities honestly seems little paranoid.
It's not like we are MMORPG hardcore raiding guild, freaking about losing key player(s) in middle of progress.

Been there, done that + all the Dramas, Ragequits & Flamewars™. I'm almost crying with nostalgia (almost).

    PS:
I would speak for giving Liru some leeway about his ban appeal post. He wrote it shortly after ban and was clearly angry (who wouldn't).
Crucifying him over it is child's play, but also perhaps opportunity to be magnanimous.

    OK
Let me just sum up what I - as a casual player on AhoyWorld - experienced.

Couple days ago I have seen Liru's post that he wanted to run an unofficial gamenight - an even that would last about 1 hour. I signed up thinking it's nice that AhoyWorld members come up with such activity.

Yesterday I went to Ahoy TS and found the participating people in one TS room. It was stated that Shadow(if memory serves) will create ad-hoc server instance for this event - which seems reasonable, as not to interfere with usual activity on I&A. The server IP was eventually given in channel description. We logged, had one hour of fun and then went to do a debriefing - to have some discussion what went wrong etc..

About 1 minute into debriefing Liru disconnected from TS mid-sentence.
Some people then noted, that he got banned from the server. Since this greatly surprised me I stayed a bit to hear the staff explanation.
I did not caught it all, but seems that the problem was that non-AhoyWorld server address was given out on AhoyWorld TS.

    Let me say two thing:

    1) Never during the planning or execution of the event did I have impression that Liru or anyone else is trying to create new/separate community to the AhoyWorld.
In fact, I have chalked this event up as another proof that AhoyWorld is nice and active community.
Apparently, some members of the staff seen this in very different way. I wonder why that is? Miscommunication?

    2) Even thou Liru might have broken house rules, I would expect that staff would give him a warning that when running event outside AhoyWorld, he needs to use separate TeamSpeak as well. Booting him from TS mid-sentence when there is ~15 other people listening to conversation seems very ham-fisted and paints bad picture.

I would appeal to staff, to take a moment and consider, if this could perhaps have been handled much, much better?

Looking forward to APEX, but little worried that largely jungle-infested Tanoa will have the usual problem with AI seeing through foliage too well.
Unless BI is going to adress this with DLC too.

The approach used in my link is a 'dirty' solution. It merely puts up a black screen with a message in the chondition of someone in thermal sight mode.
I think I found a way to do this the clean way, not giving the the thermal option at all. I'll tinker with it later tonight when I'm home.
Both options however do not allow for blurring the targets after a certain distance though, as far as I'm aware. It's either disabled or enabled, with or without a distance condition.

Pretty much this. It's least work for Zeus, yet makes the usualy predictable AOs/Side mission less so.
For example I've seen Zeus send two helis that parachuted additional opfor squads into almost finished AO and sent some light vehicles with them
    - easy yet effective way to make it more interresting for ~20 people in AO, who were just loitering around waiting when the AI decides that AO is completed..
The custom made Zeus mission can be great also, but there is one key thing Zeus should alway do:
Clearly and REPEATEDLY inform all the players on the server that Zeus mission is incoming after current AO completes.
Zeus can ask some player(s) to do this broadcasting for him.
Failing to communicate results in confused players leaving - if suddenly Zeus scraps existing AO/Side without explaining to ALL people why.
I've seen this mistake couple of times - Zeus creating mission for closed group of people who were in:
    -locked squad
    -locked TS room
without explaining to other people on the server his intentions and taking them aboard.
This "private" sessions simply should not happen on public server if they interfere with flow of standard AO/Side mission.

kman reacted to Arkod in EU#3 Server Password
It's the reality, no matter how admins feel about that comment. Most people won't read the rules, and from those that do read, many won't remember them.

I also have to agree with Jux about the attitude towards new players. More than once I've seen "veteran" players try to ""teach"" new players about the rules by yelling at them, saying that they can't use their current weapon/camo/whatever. That's just being arrogant, not helpful. If you don't want to spend a couple of minutes talking to the new guy and actually point him in the right direction, you're better off not speaking at all.

That kinda applies on the main topic here - the Password and TS. Instead of preventing people from joining, why not help those who forget to launch TS, switch channel in TS or have issues with ACRE+TS keybinds?

A couple of days ago there was a new guy on the server who had issues with keybinds and couldn't speak ingame. The answer he got from players ingame was something along the lines of "You can't play right now. Disconnect, fix your stuff and then come back". How someone who has never used ACRE before is supposed to know where the problem is and/or how to fix it?

Damn, I'm going off-topic again... What are the advantages of putting a password? I personally have a hard time finding anything positive.

Ah interesting, I never thought about FOV but that's probably it then, thanks.
For me (like I mentioned above), the HE has a very different flight trajectory, so it's not unique to him, I always assumed it was normal?

I'll have to do some more testing later!

Ok I've found the answer to the problem, MODS!
    Specifically, Blastcore_Phoenix.
With the mod, the HE round travels much faster and with less drop. Without the mod it behaves identically to the AT round.

kman reacted to Primordial in Lack of Teamwork and Communication
I have noticed over the course of my first week of playing on the Ahoy servers (EU#1 and EU#2) that there is generally a lack of teamwork and communication between players. People not responding to other players such as getting base AA online, asking for assistance at certain locations and not notifying squad members of your plans. It is a shame to see this happen on a server which focuses on more serious gameplay (when in comparison to typical server types such as Capture the hill). I hope that teamwork and communication can be encouraged more effectively within the community in its future.

As just a passenger I certainly like when pilots are more careful when approaching AO. Logging on and dying 3x in crash before I reach AO for the first time is total turn-off.

But the idea with pilot siting by the damaged heli and waiting for refuel, I don't see that working.

Yesterday I was on repair specialist class and Huron I was in took some beating and landed, I repaired it immediately and pilot thanked me, but then reported that it has no fuel. So we blew it up. Air-lifting fuel cistern to the damaged heli is - in my humble opinion - nonsense:

    * You are risking second chopper. (The Buzzard will not care you are on mission of mercy)
    * You are risking another pilot.
    * You now have TWO helis out-of-rotation, prolonging waiting times for everyone on server.

    1) Partial solution would be - if it can be programmed in - to remove fuel-leakage from the game.

    2) Even better would be: allow pilot class to carry Toolbox. If they know they can repair, they would try hard to make safe emergency landing.
You might say it makes repair specialist obsolete, but I think that class only makes sense if you log-in to become part of vehicle/boat crew anyway.
