  1. 600m max for me too with ARs, ideally around 350 to 400m though. However, I find alot of the time that people are content to just sit at that 600m range and plink away at enemies and then complain that they aren't dying. It's much better to advance to contact to a range where your bullets are actually going to do something, around 350 to 400m is good. I realise that alot of the time it just isn't viable to advance from cover to where there is none, but if it's possible then this is where coordination and effective bounding really help to sway the outcome of a firefight in our favour. If there is no cover for you to fire from from an effective range, then it may be possible that your direction of attack is wrong (or it's just a really open map, which is possible). TLs should focus on bounding and fireteam movement if under fire to get into more effective engagement ranges.
  2. Sorry, do you mean you are physically stuck in Auto Hover or you want to land without it? If the latter then: A bleed flare is the best way to reduce speed and not gain too much altitude. Dslyexci has a good video on it, check out his art of flight series, specifically the one about stages of landing. Basically though, try to incorporate holding down collective with a little bit of nose up pitch (use them together), this will slow the helicopter down and the opposite effects of down collective and pitching up will keep your helicopter nice and level (if balanced correctly). If you need to descend and slow at the same time, just lower the amount you pitch up (bear in mind it won't slow you down as quickly though). A lot of the pilots on the public servers fly right to the LZ and pitch up/engage Auto Hover to slow down leaving themselves vulnerable to being shot down high over an AO. This obviously makes people angry (rightly so IMO). You should perform the bleed flare far enough out so that you can slow yourself down and set yourself up for a nice, smooth landing without gaining too much altitude. After some practice you can even use the rudder to kill off excess speed on the final stage of landing and touch down at an angle like a badass! Try to keep away from Auto Hover as much as possible for landing (especially when coming in at speed). I would add that TrackIR is a fantastic peripheral for any would be pilot in ArmA.
  3. For me, i will just get the, 'No Message Received for 'x' seconds'. As said, a dc and re-connect fixes the issue. It doesn't really bother me, i was just letting lexota know that he isn't the only one!
  4. I find myself having to reconnect after my first attempt at joining. This happens quite often, not too sure why, but i just DC and reconnect and so far no issues!
  5. As cool as RHS is, I believe that would bloat the repo to an unreasonably large size unfortunately.
  6. Why not clip the spring ever so slightly?
  7. High-speed-low-drag loadout.
  8. How about if the enemy jets had less ammo instead of unlimited?
  9. Yeah as I said above, you can simply download a profile for your HOTAS and edit it to your liking. Good choice on the FC3, some nice aircraft in that pack!
  10. I started out with the A-10C, it was a heck of a learning curve since as you rightly stated, it is very complex. To begin with, i practiced the start up sequence with guides until i could do it alone without referencing a pdf every second step! Even that in itself is really rewarding, knowing that the jet is all ready to go and you made it like that. I believe the hoggit server runs a 'Tuesday Noob Night' (US time) where you'll definitely be able to get some good pointers if you do go for the A-10. Find a decent profile for your HOTAS too and you can tweak it to your hearts content. Just keep watching videos and you'll learn the systems soon enough. I've even heard of people that manage to get a hold of the actual A-10 manual for studying in their spare time (such dedication). If you're looking for something more casual, as said above, go with Flaming Cliffs, it gives a good assortment of jets that you can zip around in with a slightly more arcade-like feel in the cockpit and systems while still retaining a realistic flight model. The F-15C is a case of pressing 2 or 3 buttons and your engines will spool up and you're good to go, the A-10C on the other hand... Well you'll be there for a while. I don't have rudder pedals, but i wish i did for DCS, the track ir is brilliant though!
  11. Cheers, was a good session, appreciate the work that went into putting it all together!
