  1. I only caught waft of the Arma series because of the stripped down Arma2Free, and even that was in the post-steam days (although I did have a much-cherished demo of Operation Flashpoint I got with a magazine, way back when), but despite my "left out" feelings and excitement to try the assets, I have baited breath. To start, the word port has terrible, terrible connotations. But worse still, that this is seen as, in Dyslexci's own words: "the future of Arma 3" I think is wrong. The current conflict has big plot holes and shortcomings, though its technical predictions aren't too bad. The assets this pack brings to the table need to be used to simulate (meaning to have or feel) the military operation Altis should have been. I'm talking crumbling battle-rifle armed European armies trying to peace-keep in a former territory in transition, and an interfering USA, and its special forces, armed with prototypes (AR-10, EM-2) conducting political assassinations to see the conflict go their way. So rather than its future, a glance at its (more relatable) past, perhaps. Regards, Hench.
  2. That looks like there's a problem with the DECIX exchange, DECIX is a company that operates commercial internet exchanges, on the 2nd October 2014 they did announce they are beginning to upgrade their exchanges starting with Frankfurt. I would guess that you're routed through the Frankfurt exchange to connect to the AW TeamSpeak, and that the loss of connection is due to the maintenance they're performing. Furthermore, it's also interesting to note that from your home you are routing through AMSIX, which is the Amsterdam internet exchange, which coincidentally is also under maintenance. That would explain why only 50% of packets are getting to hetzner, a hosting company, which I'm guessing hosts AW's TeamSpeak. Although I haven't suffered your exact problem in the UK it's a similar case, although we don't have big central exchanges, only little green boxes. Because, in my area, infrastructure is being upgraded to "superfast" broadband we lose internet around once a week for fifteen or so minutes. So the solution is simply to wait, and if it goes on for an unreasonable amount of time, then phone your ISP. I hope that helps. Regards, Hench.
  3. Tracks, wheels and building materials? hmm.. what about a stunt park for our daredevil in residence? That aside, some permanent FOBs around the map would be a nice-to-have in lieu of rally points working expediently i.e. not robbing you, requiring the workaround. In actual fact, FOBs would probably work better, in that, road travel (it is patrol ops, after all.) becomes more viable (less exposure to enemy patrols) and allows additional resources (vehicles) to be brought up in the divine light of posthumous knowledge. Regards, Hench.
  4. From what I understand about the mods, it's Alive that adds an additional menu on your esc. screen to the right of ArmA 3s default menu, where instead of choosing "abort" on the ArmA menu, there is an option to select "player exit" that "saves" your progress (hunger, thirst e.t.c.) and carries it across to your next session (persistency). However, having tried this out I haven't noticed becoming thirsty or hungry, but this may be down to loading classes from the arsenal, it not having been configured on EU #3 or even my *cough* high mortality *cough*. Nevertheless, I still carry a canteen, two water bottles, a tikka masala, and a lamb curry - and save on the biscuit brown. edit: changed to reflect further information received, thanks to kennychr. Back to Stratis

I support the idea. For me Stratis is the better island of the two and seems to hold more continuity with the story, a population of 200 is believable, and the explanation that they were killed in acts of genocide (using Kamino as a firing range) makes the map more acceptable. That's perhaps the reason why so many servers use the map to host Wasteland and island life. From the search I did earlier, I think it's a shame that there is only one combat mission server, running I&A, using Stratis as its environment. To say that more people prefer Altis, I don't think is necessarily true, it's just the way that I&A has evolved into vast combined arms that makes Altis more appropriate. A successful Stratis server would have to offer something different, vehicles would probably be IFVs and amphibious assault - tanks, hunters and ifrits would be out; and CAS would have to be curtailed (hummingbirds at most) in favour of player controlled artillery. In essence it would have to take props from Grenada, Falklands, South Georgia and South Sandwich conflicts. Due to Stratis' size, AOs would have to be more varied for one, but also basic aspects of the game would have to be extended, something that would perhaps be best achieved on EU#3 using mods, aspects like navigation, missions requiring enemies to be captured and field triage are to name a few areas. I was more elaborate originally and drafted an entire strategy for it, but I might save it for a DIY project. Regards, Hench.
  6. I can recommend www.novatech.co.uk very highly, I get all of my hardware from there and have not once had a problem. In particular this card may be of interest to you: www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/nvidiageforcegraphicscards/nvidiagtx750series/n750-1gd5oc.html Although that price seems reasonable to me, since you haven't shared your budget, there are also cards from the GT series available for £20/25 euros.
  7. I see what onedigita is saying, you'd have a sort of Titanfall situation where there are players and AI minions, which I believe is allocated in a ratio of 1:5. In practice, you'd have 45 players and 225 AI on the map (depending on exact ratios), and these AI are allocated to Blufor and Opfor based on the number of players on either team. So that for every one Blufor player, there are 5 Opfor AI and vice versa. It's a nice idea, although I would hazard a guess it would basically kill frame rate with the calculations the script would have to do. Regards, Hench.
