  1. There is one (2 actually if we count helirepair pad VAS as well) however it has only VAS script option - it is missing Viewdistance settings option, which VAS at infy spawn does indeed have. If pilots spawn and want to change viewdistance, they can do so only at infy spawn. I agree to some extent only. Yes, I do realise that it makes it rather easy but just given how grass is implemented in arma series (only to some distance from player viewmodel, depending on setting) and fact that you can not effectively hide in grass beyond that distance because it does not render at distance - thus from the enemy perspective, you are totally exposed on a flat ground... I think it is just a broken concept in a first place which was born due to engine and computing limitations somewhere deep in BI studios back in the days. Imo it does make difference to some players. For me, having grass, even to the lowest settings vs. having no grass at all means just a couple of FPS but when you are in the AO, with all the action happening, every single FPS makes a difference - at least to me. Playing below 30fps literally makes my head hurt and makes it hard to focus. As someone who has some competitive background in FPS games I seek every possible performance boost I can get and trust me, if there was any computer setup that could run I&A at or above refreshrate of my monitor (144Hz), I would sell my kidney, soul and firstborn son to have it. Meanwhile, I can run everything on ultra with 8xMSAA because Arma is barely utilizing my GPU to 50-70% on a good day... yet switching grass off still gives me performance boost because it has effect on main worker thread and CPU time (less impact on higher end OC systems, more impact on lower end systems) Do not even get me started how AI sees you and how they track you even after they have lost the line of sight. AI is superior in tracking targets even beyond solid horizon or objects, no kidding, anyone can test this out on your own if you feel like arguing about this one - hop into editor, make enemy squad run away from you over the horizon. Let one friendly AI be your leader and wait until he assigns you target. Even when target moves beyond visible horizon, your "attack" marker will remain attached to that guy for 10 more seconds, following his movement changes before it gets stuck to last known position. It is hardcoded in game engine and while changing direction or taking cover behind bushes may or may not confuse AI (depending on their skill) it gives them advantage. Whether grass confuses them to any useful extent, I doubt it. It is just how the game works. Once they spot a single pixel of you, you are locked on and only their poor marksmanship and your evasive maneuvers may save you. I would say that it is a result of logical thinking (well, you can more often than not see that some players lack this) and game knowledge more than competitive nature of the gameplay. If I understand it correctly, mpmissionparameters can change general availability of thermal scopes, DMRs, machineguns and make them role specific only. I would like to see that used, just once - but I can guarantee that majority of players would just not be bothered to play that way because they couldn't get a single kill. Why nightstalker/TWS instead of using let's say DMR scope for shooting and laser designator for spotting? Why carry 3 AT missiles in a carryall backpack instead of just 2 in smaller one? Why carry lesser AT system? Why use a rifle that needs 5-6 bodyshots to kill that laggy and flinching AI instead of one that needs 3-4? Why would any reasonable player not do that? Because some people think. For the record, I have loadouts with MX SW as well, I don't mind it, I can play with that as well. I understand that you want to remove advantage nograss brings but final question for you - how many people have argued that they are not getting kills because they run all the grass while guy next to them does not have any grass and wrecks kills? How many people felt like in a disadvantage? Was it more people than those who who suffer now from nograss? In other words, what is the net outcome of people who were suffering from not getting kills because someone is running nograss minus people who suffer now from grass in their scope and couple fps worse performance? If the outcome is positive, so be it, well done. If it is negative, then it is fair to say that it has done more harm than good. If it is the way mission creators want us to play this game, I accept it. I opened this discussion just to figure it out and I will comply. In that case tho, maybe remove that option from the script at all. Because right now one can switch to lower setting than servers default, which again, arguably gives player some advantage to those who do not change that setting at spawn.
  2. I also enjoy supporting other players instead of wrecking kills, this ain't CoD or BF afterall (ok, sometimes I topfrag as well xD). You may see me fly heli for the entire night in a 6 hour long session with only one pissbreak just to make sure we get at least some players rolling... or running with a red hat as a medic, risking my life to save others. I understand that approach to teamplay and surely I like that way of thinking. What I was referring to with your helmet was simply the way you presented it with. First of all, you should have asked him if he needs you. You are not obliged to follow/stalk/drive in vehicle all the time and I believe that SuperKami knows how to ask for help should he need some. Your role is not bound to his vehicle and you can do your stuff when needed - rest of the time there is a rifle in your hands I do appreciate your way of playing I&A and I am certainly happy that you are one of those people who play the slot they have taken. As for what harm may happen, couple days ago I was driving Hunter HMG from the base to the AO somewhere in SW of island. Pretty long journey but I knew that it will be handy to provide support from distance. I parked on a local hill, switched to gunner seat and next thing I know we are driving into the minefield near the radio tower with tigris and marid watching us. And by we I mean my Hunter, me and some Randy (random guy) who just stole my ride with me on board. I shout to the guy on vehicle chat, I type to him to stop, I type it to sidechat, but nope, he has mistaken it with GrandTheftAuto. I managed to eject but needless to say, my vehicle was no longer mine, after all that drive, I wasn't providing any cover, I was injured somewhere ahead of everyone between enemy vehicles, infantry and mines. That fool got blasted naturally. Things like that DO happen and ever since I am very cautious regarding who is on board with me - only people who I know, trust and talk to. Now all I want this to be is an example for all - yes, teamwork is appreciated and it is a vital key to success however we should be respecting each other instead of trolling. Especially when situation is heated a bit as it was that night when nothing seemed to work nor move smoothly people tend to get mad a bit. Also, again, intentional TK is a no-no as it is one of server rules but we need to be able to reach to admins in situations like this to dispute them imediatelly instead of taking shots at each other. howg.
  3. Hi, quiet some time ago you have removed an option to disable grass aka *low* terrain quality in Viewdistance script. I have been told that if community wants to have that option back, they should say so - and thus I am bringing it up for conversation. As far as I am concerned it is a matter of simple switch in a script... Now onto some arguments why that option should return. Reason #1 ARMA engine is terrible when it comes to resource utilization. We all know that. We know that our Crysis3onultra-capable gaming rigs barely run I&A at non-powerpoint framerates. Purpose of viewdistance settings is to allow each individual player to adjust settings easily to fit his/hers computer. Currently we can lower/increase terrain settings which in return change a distance at which is grass rendered for the very same reason. Reason #2 I&A is a cooperative mission thus if one player has grass enabled and the other has it disabled, it does not bring unfair advantage in firefights as we are shooting AI, not each other. If it was a competitive mode, I would undestand necessity to have same conditions for everyone. Reason #3 AI does not give a shit about grass. If you are about to have a firefight over slight horizon, you are about to lose. AI will engage you before you can even see them because you have all the foliage in your face and all you can do is lob some nades... Especially southern parts of Altis have these low hills with very mild slopes that are AI paradise... Reason #4 We already had it working before and I haven't seen anyone complaining. It is totally ones choice to disable/decrease/leave as it is/increase grass levels according to their taste. You are giving people free choice, not enforcing it for everyone. Could you please tell me your reasons why it was disabled in the first place and also could we discuss reasons why this request can or can not be accepted? Thank you for your precious time! PS- also feel free to add viewdistance script action to pilot VAS so that pilots do not have to run towards infy armory to change it. I know that you have added it to AA jet directly for instance, why not add it to pilots VAS as well? Can't hurt anyone.
  4. I had to login after months of inactivity just so I can respond.. because I happened to be there and see it as a wittness. First of all, let me state that I have (or had?) some expectations how I&A should be played, especially on its home server. I understand that this might not be what admins/owners/community members have in their mind but I honestly believe that general idea is "PTFO or GTFO" - if you do not wish to play by the rules and follow the mission format then please leave your slot to someone who would love to do so instead of you. It is not a rocket science afterall. We often see admins asking players what are they doing and if they are up to no good, they get booted from their slot (same for slot holders, afkers, etc) Game that OP is mentioning was in a total despair, my best comparison would be to a headless chicken - even by local standarts this was just making my head hurt and man, I am already getting used to various levels of disorder and anarchy. When this incident happened, main AO was at Molos. After several attempts to get there (neither of which was in a timely fashion) I managed to get to the AO in a wreck of a Ghosthawk which landed next to a wreck of Huron. Great, at least some luck, I was just injured. Minutes later, we have taken Molos with infantry approaching from the south, SuperKami in his SlammerUP clearing north on his own (!). When we wanted to evac (some great leader designated evac LZ right in the middle of a city by lightpoles and houses, what a genius), our trusty pilots simply didn't even bother coming. One apologized that he tried but got shot down, nevertheless, out of 5 pilot who were online at that moment, only one (!) tries and then gives up? Like I said, situation was less than optimal troughout the evening... Situation followed like this - new AO was *just* about 2clicks to the west, so binocular run and ghettoblaster to the maximum while I run. Multiple people were interested in taking a ride in the back of SuperKamis Slammer to which he responded something like *I didn't drive 10km here to let someone steal it, sorry, but I am afraid of someone jumping in a gunner seat* and he drove to the new AO on his own. At that point, he was totally dominating the scoreboard, clearly doing his best for all of us (I dare to say his score was greater than sum of individual scores of the rest). OP was shouting things that made me laught tbh, like, I play repair, I will fix it, I even have a crew helmet. While headprotection and fashion accessories are important, I have my doubts that it has anything to do with ones qualification to perform certain tasks (ghillie suit doesn't turn me into sniper and heli pilot coverals do not lower my crash rate in helis). He kept repeating that he wants to join to which SuperKami responded that he does not wish so - and given I have been kidnapped in a Hunter recently, I totally understand why... What happened afterwards with teamkills is not certain to me although my opinion on that is mixed - at one point you are commander of a vehicle and you should have right to determine who can get in and who can not.. but you do not have any lock option to enforce it and with no admins around I am afraid you have to defend yourself from any harm. Whether that was a justified action or not, whether it was a provocation and harrassment... but I agree, blue-on-blue should not happen (and I still feel bad for the guy whom I shot later that night when he was lurking between enemies and I got him). PS: after we have finished one sidemission and SuperKami was driving by towards the base, I asked him nicely to give us a ride... he came, even waited for temporarily-afk member of my squad to return, board it and gave us a ride back to the base as he was about to repair. Not just to the repair pad, he nicely drove us to helipads although he didn't have to. Just saying, people and situations like this give me back faith in humanity and teamplay on pub servers even when everything else is just a mess.
  5. I never really liked the looks of the Hog, it was so fugly that I felt pity for it and loved it... like an ugly duckling. This version which we are getting for A3 looks slightly better imho but I have to say I am not impressed with its ingame performance. Yes, out of all the CAS jets available at the moment it handles the best at low speeds, it has nice take off speed, shitloads of weaponry like the real one and that legendary BBBBRRRRRRTTTTT sound gives a huge boner to everyone... (but it doesn't sound scary enough!) the main cannon seems to be overaccurate and with low rate of fire (compared to real life) so strafe runs need to be surgically exact (unlike with CSAT jet which spreads a lot more and covers huge area - good night infantry, sleep well in the heaven). If you need to gtfo after your gun run, you may as well start praying because that thing prefers low speeds and any attempt to accelerate is just a wish. CSAT jet on the other hand prefers high velocity approach and generally will have better survivability - it comes in for the kill at speed, shoots, accelerates and gets out of the reach of enemy AA. I can even imagine CSAT jet in a wild weasel role - something that would be rather risky for the NATO jet.
  6. And why would someone even think of disabling that grass setting? What could it be good for in PvE - where it only obstructs your view yet NPCs don't give a fuck. If someone wants grass everywhere, they are free to do so. If someone wants those extra couple of frames per second and unobstructed view, then there should be an option for that as well. Could we have it back in the next version pls?
  7. The TAW view distance script (via action menu) does not work properly in this version - you can change VD accordingly but "Grass settings" seems to be broken a bit - you can select low, normal, high - those work - but if you want to select none - it acts as if you selected normal. It seems to also override Game settings (relevant is Terrain quality setting - low equals no grass and lower polygon count of terrain) so no matter what you set up, this broken script overrides it. This is a problem for players with lower end PCs (grass rendering kills performance), this is a problem in minefields, this is a problem on flat hilltops where you can't see enemies trough grass but AI does not give a shit and headshots you 99% of a time. This is not a problem for people who run everything on ultra. This script worked in previous versions, what have you done to break it? Also, I like how this version works and all new stuff that was implemented, just tell me, why does this version run 20 FPS less on average than 2.70e which can be found on [GER] 132. Division spezielle Operationen server? That version is missing some features (and has some extra), but it runs significantly smoother on my rig (+20 fps on average!!!) Also it doesn't crash players... (sadly that server has bad connection and is almost always desynced if there are more than 30 peeps). If I were you I would download it, unpbo and figure out why is that version so smooth... I have it confirmed from other friends that it runs really smoother compared to 2.71. Anyway, keep improving, you are my heroes
  8. Hai there! I fell in love with your servers (reads as "the playerbase") so I thought I should look around here - and it would be appropriate to introduce myself, I think. IRL, I am almost 30 years old (if I was a bottle of whiskey I would be awesome), hailing from Slovakia, working in management/marketing and spending most of my day behind the desk... you know it, boring stuff. My English is.. well, okay I should say, just when I am overhelmed by the ongoing situation, I may not give a fcuk about proper grammar - so excuse me In game I am known as "Poonikins", which is just a pretty name to go by It is always nice to hear some tryhards go like "Poonikins, this is Bravo Two actual, requesting support at grid refference...." - it just cracks me up and that is what matters in the game imho - we play to have some fun, don't we? Anyway, whenever I am on ground, you can easily identify me because I am that guy with a RED cap - not a fancy camo, but I am tired of friendly fire... so don't shoot that guy wearing a red cap! Never ever! I am always playing the objective (and usually the role as well) and always trying to help my teammates as much as I can - by reporting threads, taking out enemies, healing, repairing, sharing equipment, etc... I try to do my best. When I am lonewolfing, I go slowly.. when I am as a part of a group, I stay in line and follow. Teamspeak friendly, VoIP as well (I hope my mic is good ingame..) If you ever need a good heli pilot who is not going to land chalk 3 clicks away, just call me in - have been flying helis since OFP, trough ArmA, ArmA2:OA... 12+ years of piloting experience. Flying with a joystick+keys and as long as I am sober, I won't crash I haven't been playing ArmA3 too long, I am kinda bambi but it feels very familiar, so I can get going I hope to get some gametime with you guys My infy motto is "If it is worth shooting, it is worth shooting twice" My pilot motto is "Flying high, it will die. Slow and low, it will go" "Fleeing enemy is flanking enemy" "Only hit counts. The only thing worse than a miss is a slow miss" "Do or do not - there is no try" If you have any questions, feel free to ask me below.
